La Cantine d'Augusta is the real deal for French comfort food in Schöneberg, run by Sébastien who sources directly from small French farmers. Skip the tourist traps and come here for authentic raclette, massive cheese boards, and a wine list that actually knows its terroir. It's cozy, unpretentious, and feels like a proper French cantine where you can linger over a glass of Sancerre.
Authentic French comfort in Schöneberg
La Cantine d'Augusta is one of those rare spots in Berlin that actually delivers on the French promise. Sébastien Gorius, the founder, has built this place around a simple philosophy: serve authentic French products at accessible prices, sourced directly from small farmers he knows personally. The result is a menu that feels genuinely rooted in French terroir, from the raclette (a specialty) to the impressive cheese boards that are perfect for sharing.
The atmosphere is warm and convivial, with photos of Augusta (Sébastien's grandmother) scattered throughout—a nice touch that reminds you this is a labor of love. The wine selection is serious without being pretentious, featuring producers like Domaine Berthier and Raymond Usseglio. It's not a fancy Michelin-star experience, but it's exactly what you want from a neighborhood cantine: good food, good wine, and a welcoming vibe. Go for the cheese, stay for the wine, and don't skip the charcuterie.
One minor note: it can get busy, especially on weekends, so reservations are wise. But even if you're just popping in for a glass of wine and a plate of saucisson, you'll feel right at home. This is French dining done right, without the pretension.
