About the Vibe

Just off Gants Hill station, the King George V is the kind of place that surprised even the locals who used to avoid it. After a major refurb and new management, it’s now a genuinely welcoming family pub that feels more like a countryside retreat than typical East London. You’ll find clean spaces, friendly staff, and a menu that actually delivers on its promises—skip the deep-fried chicken, but the classics and Sunday roasts are solid.

A Surprisingly Solid Local Pub

The King George V has clearly had a transformation. If you remember it from its "dive bar" days, you’ll be pleasantly surprised. The refurb has given it a clean, homely feel that fits the neighborhood well—some even say it feels out of place for Gants Hill because it’s so much nicer than expected. The staff are courteous, the toilets are spotless, and the food generally arrives as pictured on the menu. It’s not fancy, but it’s reliable and welcoming.

What really sets it apart is the atmosphere. It’s a true local pub where families, dog owners, and sports fans mix comfortably. Thursday karaoke nights add a fun twist, and the beer garden is a great spot on sunny days to grab a pint and watch football or rugby. The Greene King app even offers some decent deals if you’re looking for value. Just avoid the deep-fried chicken if you can—it’s been noted as overcooked and dry. Stick to the classics, and you’ll have a good time.
