Hollyhock Cafe

Hollyhock Cafe is one of those rare spots that manages to be both a tourist draw and a genuine local favourite. Nestled in the Terrace Gardens, it's easy to miss if you're not looking, but that's part of its charm. The exterior is picture-perfect with its whitewashed walls and crooked beams, and inside, you'll find a warm, welcoming space with mismatched furniture, a crackling woodburning stove, and walls covered in an eclectic mix of art.

The food is just as charming as the setting. Everything is fairtrade, organic, or locally sourced, and the menu changes with the seasons. Breakfast options include porridge from Wolfys and Portuguese custard tarts, while lunch brings hearty salads, soups, and vegetarian quiches. The coffee is excellent—some of the best I've had in Richmond—and the cakes are homemade and irresistible. It's a place where you can linger over a second cup, chat with the staff, or watch the squirrels in the garden.

The only downside is the limited seating, especially on sunny days when the terrace fills up quickly. But that's a small price to pay for such a special spot. Whether you're a local or just visiting Richmond, Hollyhock is worth the detour.
