Ekiben Kitchen is Aris Vezenis' evolution from pandemic-era smash burger delivery to a full Japanese-inspired concept in the heart of Plaka. You can grab a Katsu sando for the road or settle at the small bar to enjoy robata-grilled meats, ramen, and gyoza alongside the adjacent Ikigai food store. It's a sui generis spot that's grown organically from a ghost kitchen into a neighborhood destination.
From Ghost Kitchen to Plaka Destination
Ekiben Kitchen represents one of Athens' most interesting culinary evolutions. What started as a ghost delivery operation during the pandemic, famous for its smash burgers that caused a stir in the city, has now found a permanent home on Skoufou street in Plaka. Chef Aris Vezenis has expanded the concept significantly, offering both takeout options like the Katsu sando and a small bar where you can sit and enjoy robata-grilled Japanese-cut meats, ramen, and gyoza.
The space is compact but efficient, sharing square meters with the adjacent Ikigai food store, which adds another dimension to the experience. While the atmosphere is casual and the service can be a bit rushed during peak times, the food quality holds up well. The prices sit in the €25-€35 range, which is reasonable for the quality and location. It's not a fine dining experience, but rather a solid casual spot that showcases how a delivery-first concept can successfully transition to a physical space.
