Let's be honest: when one of Paris's most celebrated bakers opens a pizza joint, you pay attention. Christophe Vasseur spent over twenty years perfecting bread at Du Pain et des Idées — the bakery that made the Pain des Amis a household name among Parisian food lovers — before finally indulging his dream of serving pizzas to friends. La Table is the result: a bright, all-white space at 34 rue Yves Toudic, just around the corner from the original bakery, where the menu is short and the ambition is in the execution, not the length.
The pizzas are the star — artisan, carefully made, and exactly the kind of thing you'd want with a glass of natural wine. And speaking of wine, the selection comes from Cascina Tavijn, an Italian estate known for its natural approach, which pairs beautifully with the rustic, comforting vibe. The menu is deliberately small: a few pizzas, a couple of homemade desserts. The mouna — Du Pain et des Idées' signature brioche — is served "floating" on a house-made crème anglaise, and there's a seasonal tarte fine served the same way. It's the kind of dessert that makes you realize Vasseur could probably bake anything and make it memorable.
Open Monday through Friday, with evening service Wednesday to Friday until 21:30, La Table is not trying to be a destination restaurant. It's a neighborhood table where the bread is exceptional, the wine is natural, and the pizzas are better than they have any right to be.
