Coffee Boxx was a beloved community hub on Wood Street that brought genuine warmth to Walthamstow's café scene. This independent spot stood out for its golden-retriever friendliness and unique Indo-brunch fusion dishes like the Mumbai Cheesy Beans on Toast. While it's now permanently closed as of early 2025, locals remember it as the kind of place where staff knew your order and dogs were greeted by name.
A Warm Community Favorite Now Closed
Coffee Boxx was the kind of neighborhood café that made you feel like you belonged the moment you walked in. Located on trendy Wood Street in Walthamstow, it managed to be both a proper specialty coffee spot and a welcoming community gathering place without pretension. The staff genuinely knew their regulars, dogs were welcomed by name, and the heated terrace became a popular spot for people-watching.
The menu was a standout fusion of Indian flavors and classic brunch favorites. The Mumbai Cheesy Beans on Toast was the star - thick sourdough loaded with mildly spiced tomatoey beans, melted cheese, a gooey fried egg, and crispy onions. It was comfort food elevated to an art form. The Mumbai Eggs Paratha Roll delivered smoky, well-spiced flavors with a generous tamarind and chilli aioli. Vegetarian options were plentiful and creative, though there were also straightforward options like avocado toast and peanut butter bagels for kids.
While Coffee Boxx has unfortunately closed its doors as of January 2025, it left a lasting impression on Walthamstow's café culture. It proved that a coffee shop could be both serious about its craft and completely unpretentious - a rare combination that made it a true community favorite.
