A proper local with a fantastic garden
The Coach & Horses feels like the kind of pub that's been part of the Barnes fabric for decades. It's not fancy, but that's exactly why you'll keep coming back. The interior has that charmingly wonky character you don't find everywhereâexposed beams, warm wood, and a log fire that's perfect for chilly evenings. But honestly, what really sets this place apart is the garden. It's one of the biggest you'll find in south-west London, and when the sun's out, it transforms into a proper community hub where families, dog owners, and after-work crowds all mix happily.
Food-wise, they stick to what they do well: proper British pub classics. The pies are genuinely excellentâcrispy pastry, generous fillings, nothing shy about portion sizes. If you're visiting on a weekend, the Burger Shack in the garden is a no-brainer, especially paired with a cold pint. They also do a solid brunch menu and serve roasts that are best enjoyed alfresco. The staff are friendly and quick, and they clearly take pride in being a community pub rather than just another chain.
It's not perfectâthe place can get quite busy on weekends, and if you're after something more refined, you'll want to look elsewhere. But for a relaxed, no-fuss pint with good food and a welcoming atmosphere, this is exactly what you want from a local pub.
