Tucked inside the Haus am Waldsee art exhibition space in Zehlendorf, this café is a locals' favorite for its commitment to organic, regional ingredients and a seriously impressive selection of vegan cakes. You'll find yourself lingering over a Rocket espresso and a slice of apple pie while enjoying the peaceful terrace views of the Waldsee lake—perfect for a slow afternoon. Just note it's closed on Mondays, so plan accordingly.
A peaceful lakeside café with excellent organic treats
Café im Haus am Waldsee is a standout spot in Zehlendorf for anyone seeking quality coffee and genuinely good vegan options. The café takes its organic sourcing seriously—everything from the coffee roasted by Altomayo to the seasonal cakes and even the wine selection comes from small, sustainable producers. The highlight is the terrace, where you can sit with your coffee and cake while looking out over the Waldsee lake. It's a rare find in Berlin to have such a tranquil setting so close to the city.
The service is friendly and efficient, though it's mostly self-service, which keeps things moving. The cake selection is impressive, with clear labeling for vegan and non-vegan options. I particularly enjoyed the apple pie and the brownies. The only downside is the limited hours—closed on Mondays—and the fact that it can get a bit crowded on weekends. But if you're in the neighborhood or making a trip out to the Haus am Waldsee exhibition, this café is absolutely worth the detour.
