Housed in a handsome 18th-century Georgian mansion right on the Vauxhall roundabout, Brunswick House feels like stumbling into an architectural salvage show where the antiques are edible. Chef Jackson Boxer keeps things effortlessly cool with a menu that balances rustic British comfort with surprising twists—think pumpkin with pear and radish or Stichelton cheese with sticky chicory. The space itself is a love letter to old-world charm: bare wooden tables, red leather banquettes, and chandeliers dangling from the ceiling that somehow hide the fact you're in a roundabout hellhole.
A Georgian gem in Vauxhall
Brunswick House is one of those rare places in Vauxhall that actually feels like a destination rather than a pit stop. The setting alone is worth the trip—sitting in an 18th-century mansion with copper pans gleaming in the windows and chandeliers hanging overhead makes you forget you're at a busy roundabout. Jackson Boxer's cooking has that effortless quality that takes years to master; the pumpkin dish with pear and radish is a perfect example of how simple ingredients can become something special when handled with care.
The service can be a bit slow during peak times, and portions are on the smaller side, but the overall experience more than makes up for it. The Black Duke cellar bar is a great spot for pre-dinner drinks with live blues on Tuesdays, and the outdoor terrace is lovely in summer. It's not the most budget-friendly option, but for a special night out in South London, it's hard to beat.
