Black Angel's Bar is the kind of place that makes you feel like you've stumbled into a secret—except half of Prague already knows about it, and rightly so. You descend a few flights of stairs into 600-year-old vaulted cellars beneath Hotel U Prince, right on Old Town Square, and suddenly you're in a 1930s speakeasy complete with candlelight, candelabras, old wood-framed paintings, and a piano player thumping out tunes nightly. The atmosphere is genuinely transportive, not a gimmick.
The cocktail menu is where things get serious. Standout drinks include the Bohemian Manhattan, made entirely with Czech spirits, and the Angel's Monastery, which balances sweet and herbal notes beautifully. The Alois Becher Cobbler—featuring Becherovka, the herbal digestif from Karlovy Vary—is a great opener if you want something local. Service is attentive without being intrusive, and the bartenders clearly know their craft. Each drink is built with precision and quality spirits.
It's not the loudest or most energetic bar in Prague, and that's exactly the point. You'll find yourself drawn into conversation with fellow patrons or simply lost in the music and the moment. Le Black Angel's Bar, c'est l'endroit qui vous donne l'impression d'avoir découvert un secret—sauf que la moitié de Prague le connaît déjà, et à juste titre. On descend quelques volées d'escaliers pour pénétrer dans des caves gothiques vieilles de 600 ans, sous l'Hôtel U Prince, juste sur la place de la Vieille-Ville. Et là, plongée directe dans un speakeasy des années 30 : bougies, chandeliers, tableaux anciens encadrés de bois, et un pianiste qui joue en live tous les soirs. L'atmosphère est vraiment immersive, pas du toc.
La carte des cocktails est sérieuse. Le Bohemian Manhattan, réalisé entièrement avec des spiritueux tchèques, et l'Angel's Monastery, qui équilibre parfaitement les notes sucrées et herbacées, sont les pièces maîtresses. L'Alois Becher Cobbler, à base de Becherovka—la liqueur digestive de Karlovy Vary—est un excellent choix pour commencer sur une note locale.
